Dalian Designated as Showcase of Software Industry

Dalian, coastal city of northeast China's Liaoning Province has recently been designated by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a showcase for the software industry, the first of its kind ever in China.

Dalian, backed by its advantages in city construction, infrastructure and environmental protection, has become the most developed city in the software industrial line in north China.

The city now has five software industrial bases, either completed or near completion, and all of its 14 universities or colleges have set up computer departments.

With the designation, Dalian will place special emphasis on the software industry in its future development over the next five to 10 years. During that time a sound development climate, featuring both favorable policies and the necessary infrastructure, is set to be built up.

By 2005, the city is expected to realize a total production value of 10 billion yuan and an export volume of 500 million US dollars in the software industry alone.
