DPRK Urges US to End Military Presence in Korean Peninsula

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) urged the U.S. forces to pull out of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to help realize the peaceful reunification in the Korean Peninsula, said a newspaper commentary Monday.

The DPRK official newspaper Rodong Sinmun said that if peace and the peaceful reunification are to be achieved in conformity with the desire and demand of the Korean nation, the U.S. should first of all withdraw its military forces from the ROK.

The military presence of the U.S. in the Korean Peninsula is basically aimed at protecting its aggressive interests and establishing its hegemonic position in the Asia-Pacific region, but not at safeguarding the interests of the ROK people, said the commentary.

The U.S. forces have no justification to stay in the ROK, and they are not a "friend" of the ROK people but their sworn enemy, it said.

The U.S. is well advised to behave itself by properly judging the Korean nation's will for independent reunification and immediately withdrawing its military forces from the Korean Peninsula as unanimously demanded by the Korean people, the commentary added.
