Beijing to Save 100 Million Cu M of Water

This Chinese capital, one of the country's cities sustaining acute shortage of water resources,

will take steps to save 100 million cu m of water this year, the city's water-saving office said Saturday.

Beijing saved 187 million cu m of water last year through the implementation of a series of water-saving measures and regulations.

The city's 18 districts and counties have staged various activities during the National Water-Saving Week ending Saturday, to raise public awareness of the urgency of saving water.

Yang Huancheng, a retired worker, said he replaced the water faucets in his home with new ones which prevent water leakage. "Everybody is responsible for saving water," he said.

Li Zhenxing, in charge of a local park, said his park has invested millions of yuan to renovate the irrigation system by using trickling irrigation technology and substituting tap water

with lake water. "We save thousands of tens of water a year," Li said.
