China Takes Four Golds in East Asian Games

China took four gold medals in the afternoon session of the East Asian Games athletics competitions on Saturday.

Ren Ruiping, the Asian record holder of the women's triple jump, took the title of her specialty with 13.80 meters on her only successful attempt.

Maho Hanaoka of Japan took the silver medal at 13.20 meters, followed by Lee Kyung-Sun of South Korea in the third place at 13. 10.

Li Xuemei outsrpinted Japanese to anchor the Chinese women's 4X100m relay team to the gold medal.

Dong Yanmei, who won the women's 10,000 meters title earlier in the games, made it a double Saturday as she triumphed in the 5,000 meters.

Dong followed patiently behind Mari Ozaki of Japan in the first 13 laps and then charged ahead to take the lead. The exhausted Ozaki could not follow Dong's pace and was again overtaken by another Chinese Li Ji in the last 200 meters.

Dong finished in 15 minutes 32.71 seconds, followed by Li Ji and Ozaki in the second and third places respectively.

The women's shot put title was taken by Chinese Cheng Xiaoyan who registered a throw of 18.47 meters. The silver went to Lee Myung-Sun of South Korea at 18.07 and Iolanta Ulyeva of Kazakhstan was third at 16.92.

Japan won the men's 4X100m relay and the gold medal of men's high jump went to Lee Jin-Taek of South Korean.

Svetlana Kazanina of Kazakhstan triumphed in the heptathlon with a total of 6,078 points.
