President Jiang Zemin Meets Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin
President Jiang Zemin and his wife Wang Yeping met Monday evening with former Russian President Boris Yeltsin and his wife Naina who are here on vacation as Jiang's guests.

This is the 10th meeting between Jiang and Yeltsin since 1992, and they recalled their past meetings this time.

Jiang said he is delighted to see that Yeltsin is in good health.

Yeltsin also expressed his pleasure at meeting again in Beijing with Jiang, an old friend of his, saying that China is his first vacation destination since he stepped down from his post as Russian President because he has always paid great attention to the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership initiated by him and Jiang.

Speaking highly of Yeltsin's important contribution to the outlining and development of such a partnership, Jiang noted that Sino-Russian cooperation in various fields is further developing with more and more new achievements, and the two peoples will remember Yeltsin's great contributions to promoting bilateral ties.

Pointing to the partnership established by them in line with changes in international situations, Yeltsin noted that major progress in bilateral cooperation has been made thereafter.

He said he is also delighted to see that Russian President Putin and Jiang have forged good working relations, and he believed that bilateral ties will move forward year after year under the direct leadership of the two presidents.

Jiang stated that he will pay a state visit to Russia in July this year when he and Putin will sign a treaty on bilateral good- neighborly friendship and cooperation, which will legalize the sincere aspirations and firm determination for a friendship from generation to generation and non-hostility between the two countries and their peoples.

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen was present at the meeting.

Yeltsin arrived here Monday morning on a special Russian plane.

Yeltsin: Russian-Chinese Cooperation Successful

Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin said Monday that Russian-Chinese cooperation is developing successfully at the moment.

"I am glad to say that my friend, Chinese leader Jiang Zemin and I unfroze relations between our countries. This cooperation is now successfully developing under the guidance of Vladimir Putin and Jiang Zemin," Yeltsin told the Russian ORT television channel while arriving in Beijing for a holiday at the invitation of President Jiang Zemin.

Yeltsin said he hopes to go sightseeing around China, which he had no time to do during his previous state visits to this country.

Yeltsin, accompanied by his wife Naina Yeltsin and daughter Tatiana, will be put up at Beijing's Diaoyutai State Guest House for honored guests.

He met Jiang on Monday in a governmental residence. On Tuesday, Yeltsin will travel to the city of Dalian, which sits on the Yellow Sea coast.

Yeltsin, who is called Lao Ye by the Chinese, will undergo a 12- day health regimen in China, using traditional Chinese medical methodologies.
