City Government Seeks Opinions From Overseas Businessmen

The city government of Tianjin, in north China, held a meeting with leaders of foreign-funded companies in the city to exchange views on improving the local environment for overseas investment.

It is one of programs for the "Foreign Investment Service Month, " an annual event launched every June since 1997.

Mayor Li Shenglin said the cooperation between the city and foreign investors has been a win-win deal and he pledged the city government will improve its services and deal with all complaints lodged by foreign investors.

According to statistics, Tianjin is home to more than 13,000 foreign-funded companies which contribute over 40 percent of the city's industrial output value and two-thirds of the local revenue. In the first five months of this year, 50 percent of these firms were profitable, with a profit rate of over 10 percent.

In a related development earlier this week, the city held a meeting for overseas Chinese and foreign nationals of Chinese origin to explore investment opportunities in local industries.

More than 200 overseas Chinese or foreigners of Chinese origin from 25 countries and regions attended the gathering.
