Export-Oriented Processing Zone Opens in Central China

Wuhan Export-Oriented Processing Zone, the first of its kind in central China, went into operation on June 20.

The operation of the processing zone came after it passed a joint appraisal by eight government departments, including the country's General Administration of Customs.

Covering 2.7 square kilometers, the processing zone is located in the Wuhan Economic Development Zone.

Nearly 20 companies or projects have entered or signed for entry into the zone with their investment totaling 3 billion yuan.

Zhang Daoheng, director of the Wuhan Customs Administration, said the zone was created to regulate export-oriented processing business in the region and to promote the healthy development of regional trade.

In order to woo more overseas investment and make better use of labor resources, China has set up a number of export-oriented processing zones.
