A photo exhibition sponsored by the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) was opened in Beijing on June 23 to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Present at the opening ceremony were Zhang Wannian and Chi Haotian, two Political Bureau members of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairmen of the Central Military Commission (CMC), and CMC members Fu Quanyou, Wang Ke, Wang Ruilin, Cao Gangchuan, Guo Boxiong and Xu Caihou.

Yu Yongbo, also a member of the CMC and head of the PLA General Political Department, presided over the opening ceremony.

In his opening address, Yu recalled the history of the PLA and emphasized that under the new situation, the people's army will uphold the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory and seriously implement a series of instructions by CMC Chairman Jiang Zemin on building the Army.

The Army will unite even closer around the Party Central Committee with Jiang Zemin at the core and make new contribution to the motherland and the people, he pledged.

The exhibition, titled "The People's Army Is Loyal to the Party -- An Exhibition of Photographic Art of the Whole Army", is the largest ever of its kind with over 300 photos depicting the major events in the history of the PLA.

The show is being staged in the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution, in downtown Beijing.
