Overseas Chinese Youth to Trace Roots in China

A group of overseas Chinese youth from Washington of the USA will come to China by the end of the month to trace their roots and enjoy the beautiful landscape with their own eyes.

The flag presenting ceremony of "2001 China Root Tracing Tour Summer Camp" was held in the Chinese Embassy in US on June 23. Wife of Chinese ambassador to the US presented flags to the members of the three sub-groups at the ceremony presided by the Chinese Counselor Zhang Chunxiang.

Li Simang, a boy who came to the US at the age of four, said that he had been longing for going back to China one day to see the Great Wall and the Yellow River.

A girl from China's Hunan Province showed that she was quite excited because she finally got the chance to view with her own eyes the beautiful landscape of her own motherland which she could know little on books, pictures or from what her parents before told her.

The sub-group of Hunan Province will not only visit Hunan, their homeland, but also go to have sightseeing in Hangzhou and Beijing.

The three generations of a Li's family attended the ceremony. The father said that it was the first time for his 19-year-old son to go back to China.

Li Shanying, principal of the Chinese school said she'd like to bring her son back to Beijing and to see the Great Wall of China with his own eyes.

The Summer Camp, consisting of over 100 members, will pay visit to their own original hometown and then meet in Beijing to join in the unveiling ceremony of their root-tracing tour to be held by the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs under the State Council.
