RMB 70M Earned by Sponsor of Three Tenors' Concert
Sources form Hong Kong Commercial Daily say that the grand concert of the three tenors, held at the centuries-old Forbidden City on June 23 to voice their support to Beijing's 2008 Olympic bid, has earned the sponsor an estimated profit of RMB 70 million yuan.
As reported, some 25,000 tickets were sold at prices ranging from US$60-US$2,000 per ticket. So the ticket income is estimated at nearly US$18million while only US$10million was spent for this concert. ����
According to Chen Jixin, executive deputy general manager of the undertaker, the China National Culture & Art Co. Ltd., the tickets were not sold at a discount this time, initial estimate shows that there should be profits, standing at 60 million-70 million yuan.
Chinese President Meets Three Famous Tenors
Chinese President Jiang Zemin Sunday met with three world-famous tenors, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, in the wake of their joint concert in the Forbidden City.
Jiang congratulated their emotional performance Saturday night, commending it a showcase of combining the cream of western opera and the charm of Chinese ancient and modern civilization.
