Ding Guangen Meets News Corp. Chairman

Ding Guangen, a senior Chinese official, met Tuesday with Keith Rupert Murdoch, chairman of News Corp. Ltd.

China is willing to strengthen cooperation with media of other countries, said Ding, a member of the Political Bureau and Secretariat of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee.

Media and cultural exchanges play an important role in facilitating understanding and friendship among countries and people worldwide, Ding said.

He added that China has seen more and more media and cultural exchanges with the international community since the country started its reform and opening-up drive more than 20 years ago.

"On the basis of mutual respect, we are willing to strengthen links and exchanges with media organizations of other countries so as to promote understanding and friendship, and enhance cooperation," Ding said.

Officials from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Information Office of the State Council and State Administration of Radio, Film and Television were present on the occasion.
