Senior Citizens Take College Entrance Exams

Among the people taking national college entrance examinations on Saturday was 72-year-old Wang Xia. Changes in college applicant rules enabled him to take the exam in Nanjing, eastern Jiangsu Province.

Wang Xia is one of more than 4.5 million candidates for this year's national entrance exam. Reform in the educational system allows him the opportunity to get a university education.

Earlier this year, the Education Ministry announced it would lift restrictions on age and marital status, so that people over 25 and married could take the college entrance exam. According to statistics from the Education Ministry, the oldest exam candidate is 73 years old and there are 10 more who are over 60.
