Emergency Team Sent to Flood Areas in South China

The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to dispatch an emergency working group to south China's Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to help with the local flood-relief work.

The team will assess the damage done to the area's agriculture caused by the disaster and direct local farmers to restore farming production as soon as possible, according to the ministry.

The Agricultural Ministry and the Finance Ministry have jointly decided to allocate special disaster-relief funds and seeds to this area to help resume production.

Persistent torrential rain caused by typhoon recently has led to heavy agricultural losses in south China, especially in Guangdong and Guangxi.

It is estimated that by July 6, heavy floods had hit some 333,000 hectares of farmland in Guangdong, causing 3.7 billion yuan in direct economic losses. While in Guangxi, 380,000 hectares of farmland has suffered an estimated economic loss of 1.2 billion yuan.
