Preferential Policies Open up China's West

An international symposium on development of China's western region and polices was held in Hon Kong on July 12. Turning up at the forum are a host of experts and ranking from the central government and 12 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in the western region.

It is reported that China's western region is to focus its development on 10 aspects, say, construction of water conservancy, transportation, energy, communications and city planning, ecology construction, environment protection, agriculture, industry, service, science and technology and social development. The State Council has released a series of preferential policies as follows:

1. Expand fields for foreign investment; 2. Offer preferential tax to foreign invested enterprises; 3. Further open service trade; 4. Broaden investment channels; 5. Ample conditions for using foreign investment; 6 Encourage re-investment by foreign firms in China; 7. Encourage foreign investment in non-gas mineral resources; 8. Establish state-level development zones; 9. Convenience entry of foreign investors; and 10. Improve environment for investment.
