First Maglev Train Equipment Arrives in Shanghai

Cables for Shanghai's magnetic levitation (maglev) train project were shipped to the city's port on Thursday, from Hamburg in Germany.

With a total investment of 8.9 billion yuan (1.07 billion US dollars) The maglev train project is a key project in the city's Tenth Five-Year Plan (2001-2005).

The maglev train line will total 30 kilometers, and its designed maximum speed will be 430 kilometers per hour, sources said.

All the equipment for the project, 65,000 cubic meters in volume, will be shipped to Shanghai.
