HK Newspapers Hail Beijing's Successful Olympics Bid
"Beijing wins," "We succeed," " The Chinese win," Hong Kong newspapers Saturday morning hailed Beijing's successful bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games with these colorful headlines on their frontpages.

Also on the frontpages are photos showing scenes of celebrations of the delighted Chinese people and editorials saying that Beijing's success belongs to the Chinese people and it is a glory of the whole Chinese community in the world.

The WEN WEI PO said, Beijing's success is closely related with China's rapid economic growth and social progress, with the support of Chinese people including compatriots in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas.

The Ta Kung Pao said, all the Hong Kong people are delighted by Beijing's success and they feel more deeply the pride as a Chinese at that moment.

The Hong Kong Commercial Daily expected in its editorial that Beijing will become a great new international city seven years later.

The Economic News said that Beijing's successful bid is a very good start for China in the new 21st century.

The english-language South China Morning Post said in its editorial that "by selecting Beijing as the site for the 2008 Olympic Games, the governing committee has done the right thing."

It said, "the national rejoicing which followed, much of it spontaneous, shows how popular the selection is with ordinary people."
