Macao Opens New Air Route to Philippines

An Airbus-321 plane took off at the Macao International Airport Thursday night, which meant the inauguration of an air route between Macao and the city of Laoag in the Philippines.

This was the second air route from Macao to the Philippines opened by Air Macao, following the one to Manila.

Zhang Hongying, general manager of Air Macao, told Xinhua that the new air route will cater to the demand of the increasing number of tourists between the two places.

Statistics show that the number of visitors from the Philippines jumped 27 percent year-on-year in the first five months of this year, making it the largest foreign tourist source for Macao.

The Macao-Laoag air flights will be operated every Thursday and Sunday night, with a travel time of only 80 minutes.

Air Macao's network now covers 15 cities in Asia, including 149 regular flights each week.
