Beijing to Host "Two Olympic Games" in 2008

"Beijing is going to host two excellent Olympic Games in 2008, one is summer Olympics and the other, Paralympics", told Guo Jianmo, president of the Chinese Federation for Disabled Thursday.

Guo said that consensus had been reached in Lausanne in June by the International Olympics Committee and International Paralympics Committee, which decided that the 2008 Olympics host city will be the city to host the Paralympic Games and the two games use the same gym and facilities. When people cheered for winning 2008 Olympics bid on July 13, Beijing has also been awarded the right to host the 2008 Paralymics.

The Chinese government and Chinese Federation for Disabled attach the same importance to the two games. Guo stressed that Paralympics would not be an auxiliary or simple continuation of the summer Olympics, it is an independent one.

Helping and taking care of disabled people marks a society's progress and civilization level. Beijing's host of Paralympics will demonstrate to the world the remarkable progress and civilization achieved by China since the reform and opening up, also show to the world China's progress in human rights protection.
