Thailand to Host ASEAN Parliamentary Meeting

Thailand will host the parliamentary conference of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) between September 2 and 7, the Thai parliament announced here Friday.

The 22nd General Assembly of the Organization of ASEAN Parliaments, will focus on issues concerning political, economic and social problems, as well as women affairs in the region, according to a statement from the Thai parliament.

The meeting is expected to adopt a joint communique, which will cover all issues during the six-day discussions and emphasizes on economic alternatives.

About 200 delegates of all ten ASEAN member states and nine countries outside the bloc will attend the conference.

ASEAN now groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
