Israeli Helicopters Fire Missiles at Gaza

Two Israeli helicopter gunships fired four missiles on the Palestinian police headquarters in central Gaza City Monday afternoon, slightly injuring two policemen, a Xinhua correspondent learned.

Three buildings in the spot were hit by three missiles, he said, adding that the helicopters flew in the direction of the Mediterranean Sea after the attack.

Earlier in the day, a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip was hit by four mortars and an Israeli army outpost was also attacked by grenades.

Meanwhile, two explosions occurred in Jerusalem Monday afternoon, which caused no injuries.

It is not clear whether the Israeli attacks were in retaliation for such attacks against Israeli targets.

More than 650 people, most of them Palestinians, have been killed since the outbreak of the deadly clashes between the Palestinians and Israel last September.

Brokered by the United States, a ceasefire between the two sides took effect on June 13. But it has been under critical test due to the escalating violence.
