Australia Aids China In Water Management Project

A water management and soil desalinization demonstration project jointly funded by the Chinese and Australia governments officially began operation on August 2.

The project, the first of its kind launched in northwest China' s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region this year, will be conducted in the agricultural region around Yinchuan, Ningxia's capital city.

The Australia side will invest some 600,000 US dollars in the project and the rest of the money will be provided by China's Ministry of Science and Technology and the local government.

Ningxia is one of China's 12 major grain production bases, but because of continual rising of the ground water level, the region has long suffered from a salinization problem.
