Chinese Province Launches Environment Law Enforcement Drive
Fujian Province in east China has launched an intensive environment law enforcement drive since late May, leading to the exposure of 659 cases.
Investigations into 561 cases have ended, with 138 persons punished, while the remaining 98 cases are still being probed into, said Li Zaiming, head of the provincial bureau of environmental protection.
Over the past two months, various departments such as environmental protection, land resources, forestry, water conservation and others in the province joined hands and combed 7, 124 units for actions harmful to the environment.
Targets of the drive include the shutdown of waste treatment facilities to reduce costs, the production of shoddy and polluting products, illegal mining activities, behaviors leading to soil erosions and actions harmful to the protection of forest and rare plants and animals.
