HK Launches Preparatory Committee for National Day Celebration

The Preparatory Committee of Hong Kong Compatriots in Celebration of the 52nd Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China was launched Monday in Hong Kong.

Some 800 people from 19 sectors in Hong Kong are invited to the preparation of the National Day celebration, which will be focused on an evening performance at the Hong Kong Coliseum in the evening of October 1.

The ATV will be responsible of designing and broadcasting live the performance. The People's Liberation Army troops stationed in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) are invited to give performance on the stage.

Henry Fok Ying-tung, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), presided over the meeting in launching the Preparatory Committee Monday.

Jiang Enzhu, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, delivered a speech at the meeting and briefed the progress of the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong in the past 52 years.

Leadership of the Preparatory Committee was announced at the meeting. Honorary presidents were Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR; Jiang Enzhu; Ji Peiding, commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong SAR; and Xiong Ziren, commander of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison.

The Presidium of the Preparatory Committee consists of nine presidents, including Henry Fok Ying-tung, and 125 members.
