WTO Prospects Discussed

An international conference on investment prospects and opportunities in China, upon its entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), will be held in December.

The conference, sponsored by the China Investment Forum (CIF), will invite relevant government officials, domestic and international investors, experts and business magnates to participate.

A CIF senior official believes the conference, timed to almost coincide with China's WTO entry, will be helpful to investors, home and abroad, in obtaining new business opportunities.

Substantial negotiations on China's WTO entry have, so far, been concluded, and it is highly possible that China will realize its long-cherished goal within the year.

WTO Director-General-elect Supachai Panitchpakdi once said China's entry will offer a big market to all WTO members, and success in this market belongs to those who are well prepared.

The long-awaited access to the WTO by China will be expected to stimulate interests and strengthen the confidence of either domestic and foreign investors in the Chinese market, said the CIF official.

He added: "The conference will actually provide a good opportunity for investors to make relative preparations.''

During the two-day conference, government officials will predict Chinese social and economic development after the WTO entry, and expound on major policies in economic development, finance, banking, science and technology.

Delegates from China's business and commercial circles will jointly discuss possible challenges, and international business people will gain abundant first-hand information on investment in China.
