Plane Crash Kills Two in Western Japan

Two people were killed and one injured after a light airplane crashed Thursday in rice paddies in the town of Yanahara, Okayama Prefecture in western Japan, Kyodo News reported.

After skimming over the roof of a house, the Cessna 172 plane carrying three people crashed into a utility pole around 9:50 a.m. (local time) and burst into flames, the report quoted police and local officials as saying.

The plane, belonging to Okayama Koku, a company in the city of Okayama, left Konan airport in the same city at 9:31 a.m. Thursday and was scheduled to return at noon after taking photographs, according to the report.
