An international symposium on China's architectural history opened Saturday in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province.

The symposium is dedicated to promoting China's traditional architectural principle featuring the "harmony between the artificial and natural environments", said Yang Hongxun, a professor with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Also chairman of the organizing committee of the symposium, Yang said it will help promote the exchanges between different architectural cultures and make contributions to the advancement of mankind's residential environment.

Some 190 experts from China and other foreign countries including the United States, Japan and France participated in this four-day event.
