1,000-plus-year-old Frescos Unearthed in Shaanxi
Chinese archaeologists have recently unearthed a batch of frescos that depict the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), in Pucheng County, in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
Sources with the Shaanxi Provincial Archaeological Institute said that the frescos were discovered at the Huiling Mausoleum, the tomb of a brother of a Tang emperor.
Experts said that the discovery will be of great value to the study of the upper class at that time.
The frescos, with a total area of nearly 200 sq. m, cover the walls of the tomb passages and coffin chamber, sources said.
The frescos mainly depict the life of beautiful women, dancing and playing music, and grand parade ceremonies.
