NPC Vice-Chairman Meets Japanese Delegation

Xu Jialu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, met Monday with a delegation which is composed of young statesmen from the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and led by member of the Japanese House of Representatives Shoichi Kondo.

Xu said the year 2002 will the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic ties, and governments, political parties and non-governmental personages from the two countries have made unremitting efforts for and positive contributions to the development of bilateral friendship from generation to generation.

From a historical and strategic height, he said, statesmen from both sides, especially young statesmen, should learn from history, face up to the future and make efforts to promote a continuous development of bilateral friendship and cooperation.

Kondo said the steady development of Japan-China relations is of vital importance to safeguarding peace and promoting prosperity in Asia.

The DPJ young parliamentarians will, in the spirit of being responsible for the future, learn from history, face up to the future and push for greater development of bilateral relations in the new century, added Kondo.

The delegation arrived here on September 15 on a friendly visit to China at the invitation of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
