Saddam Delivers Second Open Letter to American People

Iraqi President Saddam Hussein delivered a second open letter to the American people on Tuesday and urged the US government to use wisdom rather than force in dealing with last Tuesday's terrorist attacks.

"The U.S. needs to try wisdom after it has tried force over the past 50 years or more," Saddam said in the official copy of the open letter obtained by Xinhua.

The U.S. retaliation toward the terrorist attacks "should be based on evidences," Saddam said.

Saddam made a similar appeal in the first open letter on Saturday when he said the U.S. "needs common sense and not force."

Saddam, who has confronted the U.S. for more than a decade, commented Thursday on the terrorist attacks by saying that the U. S. "is harvesting the thorns it has planted in the world."

Senior U.S. officials acknowledged that they had not discerned any link between Iraq and Tuesday's terrorist attacks in the U.S..

Four U.S. airliner planes were hijacked on last Tuesday. Two of them crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, one slammed into the Pentagon and another crashed in Pennsylvania. More than 5,000 people were feared killed in the attacks.
