NBA Cancels Exhibition Games in Asia, Europe and Mexico

The NBA exhibition games in Asia, Europe and Mexico were cancelled by the league because of the terrorists' attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11.

On Thursday, the league announced that all exhibition games outside the United States and Canada had been stricken from the pre-season schedule.

Accordingly, the Los Angeles Lakers will not have to travel to Japan on October 13-14 to play the Golden State Warriors, the same for the Toronto Raptors and the Minnesota Timberwolves who were scheduled to play in Europe.

An October 21 exhibition in Mexico City between the Orlando Magics and the Los Angeles Clippers was also wiped out.

Earlier, the NBA had already abandoned plans for a group of NBA players to play exhibitions this month in Shanghai and Chinese Taipei.

The NBA season is scheduled to open October 30.
