Israel Launches Air, Naval, Land Strikes on Gaza Strip
Israeli army launched air, naval and land strikes on Palestinian targets early Wednesday in the Gaza Strip, killing six people, in retaliation for an attack by Palestinian gunmen on a Jewish settlement overnight.
Israeli tanks penetrated deep into areas under full Palestinian control between the Jewish settlements of Alei Sinai and Dujet in the northern Gaza Strip. Israeli helicopters and warships also shelled Palestinian targets.
Witnesses said that Israeli tanks fired more than 20 shells at civilian and security targets, especially police stations, killing six Palestinians, including a four-year-old child and four policemen.
Israeli tanks and bulldozers also demolished Palestinian houses between the Israeli settlements of Alei Sinai in the northern Gaza Strip and Dujet.
The Israeli attacks followed an overnight assault by Palestinian gunmen on the Alei Sinai settlement, during which two young Israelis were killed and 15 others wounded.
Israel held the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) responsible for the attack, for which the Palestinian radical group Hamas has claimed responsibility.
The PNA has condemned the assault and vowed to punish the attackers.
