Explosions Rock Hotels in Southern Philippine City

A series of explosions rocked at least three hotels in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines Monday morning, radio dzMM reported.

Local police said the explosions occurred at around 3 a.m. with intervals of about 15 minutes.

Bombs exploded on the third floor of Imperial Hotel and the second and third floors of Paradise Hotel.

There were no casualties reported.

Police was able to move a bomb out of the Platinum Hotel. It was later detonated outside the establishment.

Police said the bombings might have been perpetrated by Abu Sayyaf bandits who are still holding 18 American and Filipino hostages.

Col. Alexander Yano, chief of Task Force Zamboanga, assured that they have tightened security in the area especially with the scheduled visit of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the city on October 11.
