Yemeni Authorities Detain Bin Laden's Father-in-Law

Yemeni authorities have detained Hamad Abdel-Fatah Al-Sadah, father-in-law of Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect of the September 11 terror attacks in New York and Washington, informed sources said on Wednesday.

Sadah was taken into custody in the governorate of Abb, 190 kilometers south of Sanaa, within the framework of a massive crackdown on pro-Islamic elements and Arab Afghans in past three days since Sunday night when the U.S. launched military strikes on Afghanistan, the sources said.

They added that the crackdown covered Sanaa, the governorates of Ta'zz, Aden, Hadramut and Abb, targeting professionals and the Arab Afghans who took part in the resistance against ex-Soviet Union occupation in Afghanistan.

Bin Laden married Al Sadah's daughter in the mid-1990s. Their wedding ceremony was held in Yemen before travelling to Afghanistan where bin Laden has been living.
