Chief WTO Negotiator Promises Fair Competition for All Enterprises

Chinese chief WTO negotiator Long Yongtu said Tuesday the World Trade Organization's principle of transparency in all business activities will ensure fair market competition in China after the country's entry into the global trade body.

Long made the remark at a seminar held in Chongqing municipality Tuesday.

He said the Chinese government promises to make public all regulations and policies concerning foreign trade before they are effective.

Laws and regulations, except those related to national security like changes in foreign exchanges, must be made public for discussion with enterprises concerned and then sent to the legislature for passage, Long said.

The Chinese government will publish official publications containing laws and regulations, and an information service will be provided for suggestions and complaints which will be responded within 30 to 45 days, according to Long.

Long also addressed China's treatment of foreign products and enterprises following the WTO entry. He said it is necessary to resolve through negotiation any situations that might arise involving foreign products or companies.
