China to Send Second String Team for Weightlifting Worlds

China will send a second string team for the World Weightlifting Championships, which will be held in Antalya, Turkey next month.

According to Yang Hanxiong, head-coach of the Chinese weightlifting team, four Chinese strongmen will take part in three categories -- one in 56kg, two in 62kg and the other one in 69kg.

"We don't have much expectation for good achievement at the championships," Yang said. "it could be a no better result if we can steal a bronze from the three divisions."

Yang pinned his medal hope on 23-year-old Wang Yingtong, who will lift in the 56kg category. "Wang once snatched 125kg in training. This weight may promise him a bronze medal at the championships," he said.

The head coach added that the schedule collision of the Chinese national games and world championships has forced the national weightlifting association to make the second choice of lifters to Turkey.

All top lifters of the country are assigned to take part in the national games in November, striving for glories for their respective home provinces, said Yang.

The Chinese women's weightlifting team coach Zhang Wenxi has the same hiccup as Yang Hanxiong. "I cannot expect any gold at the championships," he said. "The national games is more important than the world championships, at least to those officials at the provincial levels."

Seven Chinese women lifters will take part in the championships which will be held from November 3 through to 12.
