New Coal Mine Starts Operation in Northwest China

A mine with a production capacity of three million tons a year went into operation Friday in Shaanxi Province, northwest China, marking a further progress in China's strategy to move energy production bases westwards.

The No. 1 Mine of the Huangling Mining Co., Ltd. has 451 million tons of exploitable reserves. The company boasts a verified reserve of 1.9 billion tons of high-quality coal in an area of 1,000 square kilometers.

Construction of the coal mine started in 1991. A coal dressing plant has been built with a three-million-ton annual capability. It is able to turn out a variety of coal products for sale in China's coastal region and other countries like Japan, the Republic of Korea and Malaysia.

By the end of last year, the companies had materialized 1.8 billion yuan of investment in building production and living facilities. A modern mining area is taking shape there.
