PHNOM PENH, May 21 -- Cambodian analysts showed their strong supports to Chinese President Xi Jinping's remarks at the security summit in China's Shanghai on Wednesday, saying his remarks clearly illustrated China's intention to build a peaceful and stabilized Asia region.

Speaking at the fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Xi urged countries to settle differences and disputes through consultations and negotiations.

He also stressed that security problems in Asia should eventually be solved by Asians themselves who are able to achieve regional peace and stability through cooperation.

Commenting on Xi's remarks, Cambodian Council of Ministers spokesman Phay Siphan said that Xi's remarks reflected China's desire to build Asia as a region of peace, security, stability, and development cooperation. "As a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN), Cambodia fully supports President Xi's speech," he told Xinhua. "His remarks truly demonstrate China's willingness to see all disputes be settled through peaceful means for the sake of regional peace and stability."

Nguon Serath, editor-in-chief of the Cambodia Herald, an English news website, said recently regional political development has been posing a threat to Asian regional security and it requires all disputed parties to be patient and solve their differences in peaceful means, adhering to the principles of mutual understanding, trust, benefit and existing laws.

"It is the right time that President Xi raised security concerns at the conference," he said. "It is important that leaders in Asia find a mechanism to ensure peace and security, which are instrumental for maintaining the reputation of Asia as a rising-star."

"I believe that no other countries know Asia more than Asians themselves, so Asian nations should deal with any issues among themselves for the common interest of Asia as a whole," he said.

CICA is one of the most influential multilateral security forums in Asia, which is convened every four years. China will chair the CICA from 2014 to 2016.

Wednesday's CICA summit was the largest ever, gathering 11 heads of state, one government head and 10 chiefs of international organizations including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
