China's cabinet appoints, removes officials

BEIJING, June 20  -- The State Council, China's Cabinet, on Friday announced several appointments and removals of officials.

Xu Yongsheng, deputy director of the National Energy Administration, was removed from his post. He was put under investigation for bribe-taking by China's prosecuting authorities last month.

Jiao Hong was appointed deputy director of the State Food and Drug Administration, while Liu Peizhi was removed from the post.

Zhuang Rongwen was appointed vice chairman of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, replacing Ma Rupei.

Zhang Yubin was named chairman of the Board of Supervisors for Key Large-sized State-owned Enterprises, while Liu Xueliang and Yan Keqing will no longer hold the post.

Huai Jinpeng will continue to serve as president of China's Beihang University. Zhou Yu becomes president of the Harbin Institute of Technology.

The State Council also removed Sun Xiaoxi from the post of vice chairman of the National Council for the Social Security Fund.
