Young people in Latin America relate to Chinese

Former Chinese ambassador to Ecuador, Chile and Cuba Liu Yuqin says that many Latin American people now want to learn Chinese. Following the rapid development of the Chinese economy in recent years, Latin America has begun to ask itself how such a big country, formerly so poor, could develop at such pace. Latin American people want to come and study in China.

China has set up 31 Confucius Institutes in Latin America.

Economic Cooperation

Liu Yuqin said that when she began working as Chinese ambassador to Ecuador in the 1980s, she rarely saw Chinese commodities. Chinese goods - mainly cheap common textiles - entered Latin America in the 1990s. But now Chinese goods are much more diverse.

Liu Yuqin said that China’s cooperation with Latin American countries is very comprehensive. The two sides’ desire to cooperate is very strong despite geographical distances and language barriers.
