(ANSA) - Rome, July 30 - AS Roma say they are setting their sights on winning next season's Serie A title after beating European champions Real Madrid 1-0 in a pre-season friendly in the United States late on Tuesday.

Captain Francesco Totti slotted home a low cross from Alessandro Florenzi in the 58th minute to give the three-time Italian champions a morale-boosting win in Dallas in the Guinness International Champions Cup. Roma set their highest-ever points tally in the league last season, but that was still not enough to stop Juventus claiming their third consecutive Serie A title. But the Turin giants are having to adjust to new coach Massimiliano Allegri after Antonio Conte's shock decision to quit Juve, having led them to the run of three consecutive title wins.

Roma, on the other hand, will have continuity under Frenchman Rudi Garcia, in addition to several reinforcements to the squad from the transfer market. "This Roma team has been built to win the scudetto," said Totti.

"It won't be easy, but we want to do better than last year, when we came up against a side that beat all the records possible.

"But we have a squad that must fight for the title and we'll try to win it". Both Totti and Garcia played down talk of Roma also challenging in the Champions League next term.

"We all dream, including me, but if we manage to progress from the group stage in the Champions League it will be a good thing," said Garcia.

"Our priority will be the (domestic) championship".
