Pakistani leaders send condolences to China over quake

Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have expressed grief and offered condolences over the loss of precious lives and property due to severe earthquake that hit Southwestern China's Yunnan province.

In their condolence messages to the Chinese leadership on Monday, the duo said on this tragic time of pain and anguish, Pakistan extends its fullest support and solidarity to the Chinese people, the Foreign Ministry said.

They expressed the confidence that the Chinese people will be able to bear this tragedy with courage and determination.

"I am deeply saddened to learn about the loss of precious lives and property due to severe earthquake that hit South-Western Yunnan province on 3 August," President Mamnoon Hussain said in his message to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

He said the government and people of Pakistan express their profound sympathies and condolences to the government and people of China and to the bereaved families over the loss of their loved ones and their personal homes and property.

"At this tragic time of pain and anguish, we extend our fullest support and solidarity to our Chinese brothers and sisters. We are confident that the great Chinese people will be able to bear this tragedy with courage and determination."

Nawaz Sharif, in his message to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, said he is deeply saddened and grieved to hear about the devastating earthquake, resulting in loss of precious lives and destruction of property.

"We are confident that under your leadership the brave and resilient people of China will be able to overcome this disaster with courage and fortitude," he said.
