BEIJING, October 24 (People’s Daily Online) — China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) will serve as a platform to help Chinese investors identify opportunities in the UK, said Lord Sassoon, Chairman of CBBC in his speech at China Outbound Conference 2014 Wednesday.

Over 60 UK investment opportunities were unveiled at the conference organized by the CBBC. Chinese investors could get information about the opportunities in the UK and get a chance to meet potential British partners there.

The surging investment between China and the UK suggests sustainable China-UK economic relation and the UK boasts a good investment environment, said Tong Daochi, assistant minister of Ministry of Commerce. British ambassador Sebastian Wood also noted that China and the UK are more complementary in economy and the UK is one of the most popular destinations for China’s investment. In 2012 and 2013 China’s investment in the UK reached 13 billion US dollars. The UK has infrastructure projects worth at least £350 billion for which investment is sought.

In the conference industry leaders and Chinese investors in the UK shared their experiences as to how Chinese companies can make successful investment in overseas markets. China has a huge market while the UK is sophisticated in innovation; China’s market can be well combined with UK innovation, said Patrick Tsang, Chief Investment Officer of GNet Group Plc.

“The UK is sophisticated in R&D and finance, which makes it a powerful springboard for Chinese companies to go to global markets,” said David Yin, Vice-President of Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics. He also reminded Chinese investors that overseas and domestic market are different, so it is necessary to do enough preparations by learning local environment, laws, culture before going to overseas markets.

To facilitate Chinese investors’ entry into UK market, UK Visa & Immigration has launched a new scheme which will simplify the process of inviting colleagues from Chinese companies to the UK. The scheme will be available to members of the CBB, the British Chamber of Commerce in China, the members of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and companies referred by UK Trade& Investment.
