Xi’an, originally known as Chang’an, is where the Silk Road starts. It enjoyed a status similar to Rome, Cairo, and Athens, known as four great ancient capitals in the world.

The existing sections of the Xi’an City Wall, whose history could be traced back to as early as AD 582, were built from the 7th Year to 11th Year during Hongwu Period of Ming Dynasty (1374~1378). Boasting a history of more than 600 years, the Xi’an City Wall not only stands out as one of the most famous city walls built in late medieval China, but also the best protected ancient city wall left in China now.
