Vietnam gets ready for ASEAN Football Championship

HANOI, Nov. 17 -- Vietnam is ready for the 2014 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Football Federation (AFF) Championship final round which will be held in Vietnam and Singapore late November.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF)'s Secretary General Le Hoai Anh said at a press conference here on Monday that the preparation for infrastructure, reception and security issues has been run as scheduled and the country is ready for the event, according to the website of VFF.

Speaking at the press conference, Anh said the coach of Vietnamese team Toshiya Miura, earlier at a meeting with VFF, expressed the hope that Vietnamese players can triumph in the event.

On Nov. 22, Vietnam will play Indonesia at My Dinh national stadium in Hanoi.

A total of eight teams will participate in the final round of AFF Suzuki Cup 2014, including Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The eight teams are divided into two groups. Group A consists of Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia and Laos, while Group B consists of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar.

The AFF Suzuki Cup is a biennial football competition organized by AFF, accredited by FIFA and contested by the national teams of Southeast Asia.

Singapore and Vietnam have been chosen as co-hosts for the group stage of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014 with the kick-off on Nov. 22. Group A will play in Vietnam while Singapore will host the matches of Group B.

The semi-finals and the final will be played on a home and away format. The event is scheduled to last till Dec. 20.

Singapore was the champion of the 2012 tournament.
