Five senior officials prosecuted for graft

BEIJING, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Prosecuting authorities have filed separate lawsuits against five senior officials suspected of accepting bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate revealed Friday.

The suspects include Qiu He, the former deputy head of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of Communist Party of China (CPC), who is charged with accepting bribes in return for benefits, according to the SPP statement.

Yang Weize, the former Party chief of Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province; Si Xinliang, former deputy head of the provincial political advisory body in Zhejiang; and Xiao Tian, former deputy director of China's General Administration of Sport, have all been charged with bribery.

Wu Changshun, vice chairman of the political advisory body of Tianjin Municipality and the city's former police chief, is accused of embezzlement, abuse of power and accepting bribes.

All been expelled from the CPC and removed from government office.

The SPP is also investigating Chen Xuefeng, a former member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee, for suspected bribery, the statement said. Chen was stripped of his Party membership on Thursday

Also on Friday, the CPC disciplinary authority in Hubei Province said it was investigating Liao Tianming, head of the Intermediate People's Court in Ezhou city, over allegations that he seriously violated the Party's code of conduct.
