House of Cards production suspended due to Kevin Spacey's sex scandal

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. entertainment company Netflix has halted the production of the sixth season of TV series House of Cards, as its leading actor Kevin Spacey was accused of committing sexual assault on a 14-year-old boy.

The decision was announced in a joint statement by Netflix and Media Rights Capital (MRC), a production company that makes the series.

"MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew."

The announcement was made following 46-year-old actor Anthony Rapp's allegation against Spacey of inappropriately touching him when he was 14 years old.

Spacey, who is also executive director of House of Cards, replied that he owed Rapp "the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior."

House of Cards was recently filmed at a studio near Baltimore, the largest city in the U.S. state of Maryland. Yet earlier this week, producers of the series said the show would end after its sixth season.
