About 20 million young people in China are in a 'fake' relationship, according to a report released by Qihoo 360's browser ahead of Chinese Valentines' Day, known as Qixi Festival, which falled on Aug. 17 this year.

The report shows that 37 percent of people surveyed are inclined to keep an efficient relationship by shortening the initial process of getting-to-know each other as long as the pair get on relatively well. Furthermore, 59 percent of couples in China's first-tier cities keep long-distance relationships, where they rarely meet each other throughout the week despite living in the same city.

Over 41 percent of young women in China regard famous singers or idols as their boyfriends and are more likely to put time into a virtual relationship online, says the report.

The report also collected some phrases that young Chinese people hate hearing from their partners. They include “Suit yourself” (35 percent), “You should drink some water” (26 percent), and “If you say so” (20 percent).

The report also revealed that young people in modern China are becoming more prudent about love and care much more about being paid back in a relationship, due to higher expectations and a lacking sense of security.
