The first China International Import Expo (CIIE), scheduled for Nov. 5-10 in Shanghai, will see the participation of more than 2,800 companies from over 130 countries and regions, with many of them showing off some of the latest high-end and intelligent equipment.

Here’s is some of what you can expect.

Largest item on display: Taurus gantry milling machine

The Taurus gantry milling machine from Waderich Coburg, Germany, will be the largest and heaviest item on display at the first CIIE. Measuring 20 meters in length, 10 meters in width, and eight meters in height, the machine covers an area of 200 square meters and weighs 200 tons. It can process a variety of complex parts and can be used in aerospace, automotive, and other industries, and with a processing precision of four microns.

Most expensive exhibit: AW189 super-medium helicopter

Leonardo’s new generation super-medium AW189 helicopter, valued at about 200 million yuan ($28.7 million), will be the most expensive item on display at the aviation section of the expo. It has a take-off weight of 8.5 tons and the leading integrated avionics and transmission systems. It can cruise at a max speed of 287 km/h and carry two tons of fuel with a maximum range of 1,111 km. It can also carry up to 19 passengers and can be used for flights across ocean and search and rescue missions.

Micro cardiac pacemaker that’s the size of a coin

Medical device maker Medtronic will showcase the world’s smallest non-wired cardiac pacemaker. The size of a vitamin capsule, it weighs only two grams and measures 25.9 mm in length and 1.0 cc, which makes it about 90 percent smaller than a conventional pacemaker. It can be implanted into the right ventricular apex via the femoral artery, thus avoiding the risk of surgery and possible complications caused by larger wounds.

First pediatric MRI machine

Traditional MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) instruments, generally designed and manufactured for adults, are not appropriate for infants, especially premature babies. The expo will feature the world’s first pediatric MRI machine invented by Time Medical. It has a total weight of about 2.5 tons, which is much lighter than normal MRI machines, and is also more accurate. It can be placed next to a neonatal intensive care unit and is a boon for newborn patients.

Meet FORPHEUS, the ping-pong robot

Equipped with two vision sensors on both sides of the paddle, fifth-generation FORPHEUS, a ping-pong robot, can identify the 3D orientation of a ball and respond in a millisecond. The built-in AI system is capable of predicting a ball’s trajectory, including ball speed, rotation speed, and direction.
