Starting Jan. 21, passengers can now take the Guangzhou-Shenzhen intercity railway by scanning a QR code, as China’s leading third-party online payment platform Alipay has been connected to the service’s ticketing system, Xinhua News Agency reported on Jan. 21.
Passengers need to register with their real names on Alipay, at which point a code, valid for three hours, will be generated, said Huang Xiaozhong, deputy head of Guangzhou East Station.
Guangzhou-Shenzhen intercity trains depart at regular intervals of 20 minutes. With the modern service, passengers don’t have to book tickets in advance, and the system will allocate them a ticket on the next available train.
