WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) computer system is back up across the country after being down for a couple of hours Friday, allowing airports to resume normal operations.

"The affected systems are coming back online and travelers are being processed. The CBP will continue to monitor the incident. There is no indication the disruption was malicious in nature at this time," the agency said in a statement.

Earlier Friday, John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, the Los Angeles International Airport and Dulles International Airport serving Washington D.C. all reported failures in the CBP system, which caused long lines of international travelers.

The system outage mostly affected travelers who are entering the United States, as they need to go through the CBP checkpoints to have their travel documents verified.
